On May 17, 1992, the Pointe-à-Callière museum opened its doors on the very premises where 350 years ago, the founding mass of Montreal was celebrated.
The Museum’s mission is to bring visitors to know and appreciate the Montréal of yesterday and today through outreach, education, conservation and research activities revolving around Montréal’s archaeological and historical heritage, and to build links with regional, national and international networks in these fields, for the benefit of our visitors.
Pointe-à-Callière covers several centuries of history, from indigenous period to the present. Located on soils that bear witness to more than 1000 years of human activity and on the very site of the founding of Montreal, it houses remarkable architectural remains which are highlighted in situ. The Pointe-à-Callières museum will introduce you to more than 25,000 objects from the ethnohistorical collection. Favorites selected by the Museum team!
